The revised specification incorporates methanol as an approved jet fuel feedstock.

ASTM International’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02) has revised its standard for aviation turbine fuel containing synthesized hydrocarbons. The revised standard (D7566) now incorporates methanol as an approved feedstock under the existing Annex 5, alcohol-to-jet synthetic paraffinic kerosine (ATJ-SPK) pathway. The adopted terminology to reference synthetic paraffinic kerosine derived from methanol is MTJ-SPK (methanol-to-jet synthetic paraffinic kerosine).
